Founder and CEO of the Knock Out! brand, Angela Newman, sought out to find a solution to fulfill a market base that had previously been ignored. Newman found—by asking around to her friends, acquaintances and family—that no matter the age, the answer was the same: light sweating, spotting and minor leaks are common occurrences in the course of a woman’s typical day. So Newman decided to speak out for every woman’s unmentionables and create a product that would protect and look pretty.
With a MBA from Harvard and a background in fabrics from her consulting work with textile companies, Newman began inventing the Smart Panty. She researched and bought a patent for a fabric used for hunters clothing and mixed it with soft cottons and lace. Her mission was, “to create a fabulous panty with high tech functionality,” as she explains on the website. Her efforts proved so successful that they garnered not only the attention, but the approval of the international trend-setting talk show host, Oprah Winfrey.
